Garage Floor Paint – A Buying Guide
If you look at your garage floor and all you see are stains, dirt and tiny cracks then it is time to paint it. Paint your garage floor is incredibly simple and quick to do if you buy the right garage floor paint. The best and most common garage floor paint is an epoxy mixture that seals your garage floor and protects against gasoline, antifreeze, motor oil, salt and hot tire pick-up. Garage floor paint can be bought as a kit that includes epoxy and decorative chips (that add some sparkle).
The product that I have used on my garage floor is Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Kit – 50020 Gray Epoxy Floor Kit which I have found works better than the less expensive single step epoxies. The two step epoxy gives a thicker and more resistant coat.
The actual work involved is pretty straight-forward when using the epoxy kits. Many epoxy kits come with DVD instructions that make the job a no-brainer. Clean the garage floor (the hardest part) then mix the epoxy materials and apply it evenly to your garage floor. Once its done you will have a showroom worthy garage floor all for a $60 garage floor paint kit.
There actual garage floor paints out there that do not have an epoxy in them and they will stain your garage floor whatever color you purchase. I do not recommend these as they do not last and stains can soak up through them. The only time I would suggest using them is if you are trying to quickly clean up your garage in order to sell you house. Be careful though as some of these stains can be removed by your hot car tires. So if you go the cheap route then don’t park your car in the garage.
